Thrive by Five Welcomes Appointment of Sabine Winton to New WA Cabinet Portfolio of Early Childhood Education
14 December 2022 – Thrive by Five, an initiative of the Minderoo Foundation has welcomed the appointment of Sabine Winton to the new portfolio of Early Childhood Education in West Australia.
WA Premier Mark McGowan stated that the importance of early learning is highlighted by its new, dedicated portfolio and with Sabine Winton formerly a teacher.
Former SA Premier and Thrive by Five Director Jay Weatherill said the appointment of an Early Childhood Education Minister and the elevation of the portfolio to cabinet was a positive step for early learning reform in West Australia.
“The announcement of the new Early Childhood Education portfolio in WA Cabinet and will be life changing for children, women and families across the state,” he said.
“Western Australia’s renewed focus on early learning shows great leadership and opens a door of opportunity for the state’s children, women and families and economy.”
WA Premier Mark McGowan also announced Tony Buti as the new Education Minister which is also welcomed by Thrive by Five.
“Premier Mark McGowan has signalled Western Australia is joining SA, NSW and Victoria in the race to the top on significant early learning reform.
“Thrive by Five urges all state and Federal governments to work together for early learning reform and a universally accessible, high-quality and affordable early childhood education and care system,” Mr Weatherill said.
