What Queensland children need to Thrive by Five.

Queensland kids deserve to Thrive by Five.

Every child deserves the best possible start to life, but at the moment too many Queensland kids are missing out.

Too many children – especially those in regional and rural areas – are missing out on early childhood education because of accessibility problems; too many families are struggling to make ends meet because of the expense of childcare; too many kids are missing out on the broader health and care services they need; and poor management of our workforce means that we simply don’t have the workers to keep up with demand.

Queenslanders will go to the polls on October 26, 2024.

Before they get to the ballot box, Queenslanders deserve to know whether they people they’re voting for have a plan for supporting our kids and families.

We need political leaders who will stand up for Queensland kids.

That’s why we’re calling on all political parties in Queensland to commit to delivering a comprehensive early years plan that puts kids first.

What is the Thrive by Five Queensland Alliance?

An alliance of over 30 organisations from across the child development and well-being, education, university, union, early learning and childcare sectors has come together to make clear the actions Queensland needs to take to give every child the best possible start in life.

The alliance has developed a Queensland Early Years Plan – an action plan which outlines what experts say needs to be put in place to address long-term systemic issues as well as short-term measures to improve the lives of our Queensland kids.

Click here to see the action plan and the full list of alliance members.

The Action Plan asks for:

  • Universal access to kindergarten for all children aged three and four.
  • A holistic early childhood system that supports child developmental outcomes from birth to school.
  • A workforce strategy to attract and retain the best teachers, educators and experts in Queensland.
  • Nationally consistent implementation of the National Quality Framework to ensure high quality services.
  • Local solutions that are connected to communities.
  • Strong, sector-supported advocacy at National Cabinet.

Tell our politicians we need a plan for the early years.
