FAST TRACKING PRESCHOOL BUILDING PROCESS TO BENEFIT NSW FAMILIES AND CHILDREN

4 April 2024 – Minderoo Foundation’s Thrive by Five campaign has welcomed the New South Wales Government’s plan to fast-track and simplify approvals for new preschools.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Early Learning Prue Car announced that the NSW Government will introduce changes to the state’s Transport and Infrastructure State Environmental Planning Policy (SEPP) to speed up the process of building preschools, especially in rural and remote parts of the state.

Minderoo Foundation’s Jay Weatherill said that the decision will help make early childhood education and care more accessible for families and children across the state.

“Families of young children can face significant challenges accessing high quality early learning, including a lack of services in childcare deserts and regional and remote NSW.

“This announcement builds on the NSW Government’s commitment to build one hundred new preschools last year.

“We welcome this decision from Deputy Premier Car and encourage the NSW Government to consult with local communities on the best ways to improve early learning access, particularly in regional and remote remote parts of the state.

“The state government must ensure that new developments meet the needs and demands of local communities,” Mr Weatherill said.
