Journalists everywhere are reporting that the Federal Government is considering new funding for early learning and childcare in the Budget next week.
This is a very big deal. We want to make sure that we make the most of this once in a generation opportunity.
Can you help? Will you send Treasurer Josh Frydenberg an email now, and tell him you want early learning and childcare reform to be a priority this Federal Budget?
Not sure what to say? Here are some tips to get you started. Remember, it doesn’t have to be a long message.
- You could talk about why the current system isn’t working for you – for example, is it too expensive? Have you found it difficult to find an available spot for your child?
- You may want to talk about the importance of early learning – for example, have you seen them develop after attending an early learning and childcare centre? Do you work in early learning, and see the impact you and your colleagues are making every day?
- Fixing the early learning and childcare system would have huge benefits for women. It would give women choice about how to manage their family life and their careers – you could tell the Treasurer that this is important to you.
- The economy would also benefit from reform of the early learning and childcare system. It would allow 98,000 parents to get back into the workforce, and boost GDP by billions of dollars – this is something you could raise with the Treasurer.
